Paramount Chief of Kumbungu, Naa Alhaji Abu Iddrisu has said that there should not be any rancour between the flag bearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the flagbearer of NDC John Dramani Mahama ahead of the elections.
Speaking through an interpreter who is the Zugulana, Prof. Adam Yakubu, he told the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP that he should see former President John Dramani Mahama as a brother.
He urged both of them to accept the election results, no matter the outcome. The chief gave the advice when the flagbearer of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia paid a courtesy call on him.
The courtesy call was to afford the NPP flagbearer the opportunity to sell his ideas and vision to the Paramount Chief and the people of Kumbungu.
The Paramount Chief, Naa Abu Iddrisu appealed to the NPP flagbearer to consider the flag bearer of the NDC as a brother.
“You are a son of this place, your competitor is also a son of this place. We are not in a business of picking, we are in the business of God Almighty, we are grateful that both of you are from the north. There should be no rancour between you and your rivals, I don’t even want to call them rivals, you are brothers,” he said.
He therefore called for civility. “Between you, you should be able to find a common ground to discuss your differences in a civil manner,” he urged.
He also called for measures to forestall any security threat to the country. “There is a lot of harm in the Sahel region, a lot of unease and is all trying to find way into our peaceful Ghana. Double your effort and make sure our Ghana remains peaceful, We have a lot of fertile land across the river at Dalor into Sina, we need a bridge, if that bridge is done it will open up a whole lot of farming territories that we can conveniently go across and exploit,” he said.
The NPP flag bearer Dr Bawumia on his part agreed to both of them being northerns, but said they should choose him over John Mahama.
“It’s true the two of us are from the north but one has been president before. We know his record as president which resulted in the missing guinea fowls’ saga. I have not been president but my impact as vice president is better than the other one who has been president before. We have an opportunity to choose between 4 or 8 years so vote for me so that we can have 8 beneficial years,” Dr Bawumia appealed.
He later joined other party functionaries to address the supporters at the ‘Bawumia connect.’
The Finance Minister, Dr. Amin Adam, who spoke to the party faithful cautioned the NDC against violence going into the elections.
