According to new data from the Bank of Ghana, mobile money transactions surpassed GHC 3 trillion in value.
At the end of 2024, mobile money transactions reached GHC 3.3 trillion, surpassing the previous record of GHC 1.9 trillion in 2023.
Between the Lines
Mobile Money transactions have grown in Ghana despite a controversial e-levy bill passed in 2022. The levy placed a 1% tax on mobile money transfers between users.
According to the Bank of Ghana, active money agents have been dropping. Active mobile money agents at the end of 2024 stood at 400,000 compared to 600,000 from a year ago.
