Mohammed Kudus apologises after Sudan defeat

West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus has apologised to Ghanaians on behalf of the Black Stars after the team put up lethargic performances against Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Kudus captained Ghana in the absence of Thomas Partey, for the first time when Ghana faced Sudan in the first of two AFCON 2025 qualifying games at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10.

However, the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate as the Black Stars and Kudus missed numerous opportunities to nick a win.

The return encounter, which hinged on the Black Stars securing maximum points in order to boost their chances of participating in next year’s continental showpiece, ended in a 2-0 defeat to Ghana.

The defeat all but spells doom to Ghana’s chances of qualifying to the AFCON after picking up two points from four group games.

Kudus, assuming the role of the captain, apologized for Ghana’s poor display in the qualifying series.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya,” he said.

“We want to assure Ghanaian that we are committed to learning from our mistakes, regrouping and working tirelessly to restore the Black Stars to our former glory,” he added

The Black Stars, whose absence from the AFCON will be their first since 2004, close out the international year with two more AFCON qualifying games against Angola and Niger.
