NDC rejects re-collated election results, accuses EC of manipulation

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has categorically rejected the re-collated parliamentary election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) for several constituencies on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

According to the party, these results were declared under questionable and illegal circumstances, representing a “blatant assault” on Ghana’s democratic principles and a betrayal of the people’s sovereign will.

In a statement signed by the NDC General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party accused the EC, under the leadership of Jean Mensa, of engaging in actions that undermine the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. The NDC alleged that the EC’s conduct has compromised its mandate and deepened public mistrust in the institution.

The statement also raised concerns over an alleged “unholy alliance” between the EC, the police, and the military, which the party claimed facilitated the manipulation of election results to benefit the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC criticized the EC’s disregard for a Stay of Execution order issued by the court, calling it a clear violation of the rule of law.

Expressing disappointment with the silence of the National Peace Council and other moral bodies, the NDC urged the international community to take note of the EC’s actions, warning that they pose a significant threat to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic progress.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to defending Ghana’s democracy and vowed to resist any attempts to overturn the mandate of the people as expressed in the December 7 general elections.

“The NDC will continue to mobilize its supporters and rally Ghanaians to resist any attempt to overturn the people’s mandate. Together, we will protect the principles of democracy and secure a brighter future for our nation,” the statement concluded.
