    NLC directs government and TEWU to agree on new conditions of service by January 29

    Our labour desk has intercepted a statement which says that the National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of TUC and government to conclude and sign their conditions of service by January 29, 2025.

    Th statement which was signed by the General Secretary of TEWU-TUC, King James Azortibah underscored the commitment of the Union to get the conditions of service signed.

    “In fulfilment of the directive issued by the NLC on 20th November, 2024, both teams on Wednesday 27th November, 2024, reported back to the Commission where they affirmed that the necessary processes have been activated to negotiate in good faith, and they will report back when negotiations are completed. The NLC after hearing from the parties gave them up to 29th January, 2025 to conclude and sign all the conditions of service of the above institutions, ” the statement reads in part.

    Mr Azortibah thanked the rank and file of the Union for their support which has resulted in this positive outcome.

    ” The leadershipn, after suspension of the indefinite strike, takes this opportunity to thank all members for the support and solidarity during the strike action we embarked on the 18th of November, 2024. We appreciate your commitment and continuous support in these challenging times, and we re-assure you all that when we are united with a firm conviction, we will achieve results to our mutual good both for the present members and future members,” he assured.

    The General Secretary added, “It must be reiterated that the outcome in the past week is an indication that, together we will make TEWU stronger and enhance our image positively, with the goal of making our union, the union of our choice for all those in the education support arena”.
