The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has predicted that the governing NPP will lose more votes in the Ashante Region, the government’s stronghold, during the upcoming December elections.
Abdullai Sakra, a member of the NDC communication team, believes the aparthy that will be witnessed in the region during the polls will be unprecended due to the “deliberate failure” of the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government to fulfill the promises made to the people of Ashanti Region.
He said despite making series of promises to Ghanaians to better their lives, the Head of Government’s Economic Team (EMT), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is now the flag bearer of the NPP has plunged Ghanaians into poverty with his bad policies.
Speakin on Election Powerlane programme on TV XYZ, Sakra who had returned to Accra from campaign activities in the Ashanti Region narrated how the people in the region had expressed disappointment in the NPP.
“I was born in Ashanti Region and attended all my schools in Kumasi but today, what we are seeing in Kumasi and its environs show that the people are fed up with the party they once boasted of,” he told host NK Obrempong.
He narrated how some drivers rejected NPP T-shirts from NPP branded cars at KNUST junction and rather rushed for NDC T-shirts while he was on his way for a programme at Ejisu.
“One of the mates in a public transport rejected about 10 NPP branded T-shirts that were thrown on them by NPP branded vehicles. They asked them to take their shirts, telling them there was hardship in the country.”
Sakra said the projects of the NDC were visible in the region while the NPP had nothing monumental to show for their 2 term stewardship in the country.
He mentioned that the erstwhile NDC government embarked on the Kumasi town roads rehabilitation programme that connected most communities, Kejetia Market, Hospitals and other markets in the region as a few projects among many ones that the NDC can boast of.
“The NPP announced Year of Roads yet Kumasi roads are how the NDC left them. The people have decided to choose NDC over the NPP”
He added that the NDC will win in the Ashanti Region by 44% because “the people have seen between the lies of Bawumia and the progresive policies of the NDC.”
