    Onua Ghana Durbar: ‘Let’s demonstrate to the world that our democracy is rooted in the principles of peace & unity’ – Group GM to Ghanaians

    Ghanaians have been urged to demonstrate to the world that its democracy is not “only vibrant but also deeply rooted in the principles of peace and unity.”

    This call, by the General Manager of the Onua Brands of Media General Ghana Limited, Stephen Schandorf, is to help foster peace before, during and after the December elections.

    He has admonished Ghanaians to build the consciousness that, they are major stakeholders in instilling peace in the country in a time as crucial as the upcoming elections.

    Speaking at the second edition of the Onua Ghana Durbar held at the lorry park of the University of Ghana Stadium at Legon Friday, July 26, 2024, Mr. Schandorf charged the citizenry to “let us embrace our roles with the seriousness and dedication they deserve” to “fostering a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections.”

    “Together, we can demonstrate to the world that Ghana’s democracy is not only vibrant but also deeply rooted in the principles of peace and unity,” he added.

    He also admonished the traditional leaders to play their role in ensuring that peace and stability characterises the process.

    Reemphasising the imperative of peace in such critical times, Mr. Schandorf underscored the role of traditional leaders in ensuring Ghana goes through the exercise in a peaceful atmosphere.

    This, he said, could be achieved by the exemplary deeds of the leadership to whip up the masses along in such critical moments.

    In his speech, he said that: “I am proud to stand before you, knowing that we are united by a common goal: to ensure that this December’s elections are conducted in a spirit of peace and unity.”

    On his exposition of the theme for the event, ‘The Role of Chieftaincy in Peace During the Elections in December this Year’, Mr. Schandorf explained that the event was “both timely and significant.”

    “As we approach the elections, the responsibility of ensuring a peaceful and harmonious process rests heavily on all of us, particularly on our revered chiefs and traditional leaders who have always been the custodians of peace and harmony in our communities,” he stated.

    “I urge all our traditional leaders to continue their exemplary work, to be beacons of hope and stability, and to remind their people of the importance of peace during this critical period,” said Mr. Schandorf.

    He stressed that the gathering was not only to engage in meaningful dialogue but also to “celebrate the vibrant tapestry of our rich heritage and traditions.”

    The Onua Ghana Durbar is an annual event to demonstrate the splendid display of cultural wealth, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Ghanaian traditions which highlights the values and unity that bind the citizens together.
