In the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Okaikwei Central constituency experienced a significant shift in representation.
Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was initially declared the winner, securing 15,383 votes against the incumbent, Patrick Yaw Boamah, who received 14,949 votes.
However, following a recollation of results, the Electoral Commission (EC) reversed its decision. Patrick Yaw Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was declared the winner, defeating Sadiq.
Boamah, born on September 19, 1974, holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the University of Ghana and is a lawyer by profession. He has served as the Vice Chairperson of the Finance Committee, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Appointments Committee in Parliament.
Heavy security as EC resumes re-collation of results for nine constituencies
The recollation process was prompted by concerns over discrepancies in the initial count. Boamah expressed gratitude to the constituents for their support and emphasized his commitment to serving the community effectively.
NDC’s candidate, Baba Sadiq also raised concerns of unfairness on the part of the EC officials during the recollation.
