Poor advertisement cause of low turnout at 2024 Africa Cinema Summit – KOKA

Ghanaian entertainment pundit, Kwaku Osei Krankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has explained why there was a low turnout at the recently held 2024 Africa Cinema Summit.

In an interview on Hitz FM, KOKA stated that poor advertisement by organisers accounted for the low turnout.

According to him, the event had to be compelling to draw more attention because Ghanaians are currently focused on campaign activities because it’s an election year.

“It was an industry thing they were doing, so they had to make it compelling to get engagement. When you assume that because you are bringing a big person, so everyone is available is wrong.

“We are in an election year, so there are a lot of campaign messages in the country and they have taken all the space. What happened was bad and wrong because the advertisement was poor,” he said.

Speaking about the movie industry, KOKA emphasized that although Ghanaian filmmakers and producers have incredible stories to share, they frequently lack a strategic approach.

“My biggest threat is that there is no strategy, we have the best storyline. Nigeria cannot be compared to us, because their movies are filled with fashion, culture, and real estate,” he noted.

The National Film Authority (NFA) organised the second edition of the Africa Cinema summit at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra from October 7 to October 10.

The Summit was aimed at fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the African cinema industry.

British actor, Idris Elba headlined the summit which brought together a host of  other  members of the creative arts industry from across Africa.
