    Profile of new GRDA CEO, Dr. Frederick Appoh

    The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Frederick Appoh as the new Chief Executive Officer.

    He succeeds Mr. Yaw Owusu, who served as CEO until December 22, 2024.

    Dr. Appoh brings over a decade of international railway experience across Africa, Europe and Asia. He is a Chartered Railway Systems and Infrastructure expert leading Ghana’s railway modernization agenda.

    With his strategic leadership skills, he has led successfully major railway projects, focusing on system integration, rolling stock modernization and operational efficiency. His consultancy work includes collaboration with industry leaders such as Bombardier Transportation, Alstom, Siemens Mobility, Transport for London, Network Rail and Hitachi Rail. Before his appointment he was the Executive Director of RAMS Engineering Ltd, UK.

    In his new role, Dr. Appoh centers his vision for Ghana’s railway sector on modernization, sustainability and economic growth, his priorities include ensuring safe and reliable train operations, accelerating Greenfield developments and enhancing Brownfield projects to improve connectivity, create jobs and open new economic corridors.

    By adopting advanced technologies and international best practices, he aims to position Ghana’s railway network as a key driver of industrial and regional development.

    Dr. Appoh was a former British Army Soldier in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

    He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Railway Systems) from the University of Manchester, an MBA from Cranfield University, an MSC in Reliability Engineering from the University of Manchester and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

    His expertise in safety standard and compliance (EN50126/EN50129) will be crucial in developing Ghana’s railway transformation.

    GRDA encourages all staff, stakeholders and contractors to extend their support and cooperation to him as he beacons the Railway sector in attaining its achievements.
