Pupils showcase creativity in STEM at Maurya Education exhibition

In the heart of Sekondi-Takoradi, a vibrant twin city renowned for its commitment to education, a transformative initiative has been launched aimed at enhancing the educational landscape for children.

Poised with the theme ‘Education Made Practical: The Role of STEM’, this transformative programme showcases innovative projects like self-sensor dustbins, robo tricycles, robo cars, etc., designed and manufactured by talented school pupils aged 7 to 15 years through machine learning, robotics, artificial intelligence, and coding.

The initiative has been in development for 18 years and aims to ensure that children in Ghana are not left behind in the global educational race.

The launch event emphasized the importance of education in the region, with Girish Gurbani, Managing Director of Maurya Education, highlighting the community’s commitment to providing quality educational opportunities for their children.

“This city truly respects education; parents are determined to provide their children with the best opportunities, and that’s what brings us together today,” he stated.

During the event, students from selected schools exhibited their creativity and innovation.

Despite challenges such as material costs, Gurbani announced that through partnerships with organizations in India, they would provide necessary materials at no cost to schools.

Also, participants shared their experiences and encouraged peers to pursue STEM-related courses.

“The STEM programme is a programme for everybody, every kid. That trains that kid as a junior engineer.

“By the time you are grown enough for the tertiary level, you will be prepared enough if you want to be an engineer. And not only in the engineering aspects, but also mathematics, science, technology, and all those parts.

“It prepares you so you can engage yourself in the STEM programme, which will also prepare you in your tertiary level.” A participant from the Western Royal Montessori School said.

For Mr. Girish, “the future is STEM.” It articulates how vital it is for children to engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to foster innovation and creativity—skills deemed essential for success in an increasingly competitive world.

“If we don’t invest in our children now, Ghana risks falling behind in 10 – 15 years,” he warned.

As the event concluded, there was a palpable sense of optimism among attendees. Parents, educators, and community leaders left with renewed hope and determination to embrace this new educational initiative.

To gain massive outreach and be very inclusive, Maurya Education collaborated with important dignitaries like Mr. George Effah, Regional Director of Education, Western Region; Mr. Wisdom Kumah, Regional Director of National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), Western Region; Madam Felicia Opoku Amoateng, UCMAS Sekondi Takoradi Coordinator; and media houses like Connect FM, among others.

StemRobo officially has been launched effectively on February 20, 2025. This was held at the Fijai Assembly Hall in the Western Region.
