The Western Region’s twin city, Sekondi-Takoradi is abuzz with excitement as it prepares for the highly anticipated Masquerade Festival, dubbed ‘Taadi Bronya.’
Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has assured revelers that the city is committed to providing a safe environment for all.
Sekondi-Takoradi is gradually becoming popular during Christmas due to its Masqueraders’ parades from December 25 to January 1.
This vibrant event is a showcase of the city’s rich cultural heritage, featuring dozens of masquerade groups dressed in elaborate costumes, accompanied by lively brass band music and energetic dancing.
The Western Regional Branch of the Ghana Tourism Authority, in collaboration with the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, has officially opened the city to tourists for this year’s December masquerade gatherings.
Henry Yeleduor, the Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) said on December 21 that all is set for the festival.
“Today marks the culmination of our planning efforts for ‘Taadi Bronya’ 2024, and we’re excited to symbolically kick off the festivities. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working tirelessly to prepare Sekondi-Takoradi for the influx of visitors, and now it’s time to officially open our doors to the world.”
“We’re honored to have the Regional Minister and Metro Chief Executive join us to declare the city open to visitors. As part of the Ghana Tourism Authority’s efforts to promote Ghana as a premier tourist destination, we’ve been promoting Sekondi-Takoradi as a preferred destination, and we’re thrilled to welcome visitors from far and wide to celebrate Christmas with us.”
“From today, December 21, Sekondi-Takoradi is ready to receive visitors, and we can’t wait to share our vibrant culture, rich history, and warm hospitality with everyone. So, come and experience the magic of ‘Taadi Bronya’ 2024 – we’re ready to make this Christmas one to remember!” He announced.
Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah is a strong believer in the economic potential of carnivals, stating that they can generate significant revenue for host cities. He assures that a comprehensive security arrangement has been put in place for the celebrations.
“Over the past six years, we’ve worked tirelessly to transform Sekondi-Takoradi into a premier tourist destination. As Regional Minister, I’m proud to say that our efforts have paid off, making our city more comfortable and enjoyable for visitors. The overwhelming interest in this year’s ‘Taadi Bronya’ festival is a testament to our success, and we’re excited to collaborate with stakeholders to make it a memorable experience.”
“I’d like to extend a warm invitation to all Ghanaians to come and experience the beauty of Sekondi-Takoradi for themselves. Our city is safe, and we’ve taken every precaution to ensure that visitors have a wonderful time. Meanwhile, as some masquerade groups are busily perfecting their costumes, others are designating meeting points for the upcoming masquerade festival. The city’s iconic “Ankos” parade is a cherished tradition that unites thousands of people from near and far.
