    The State Of Social Media In Ghana For 2023

    Data Reportal has released its information and insights on the internet and social media usage globally. The report also includes some information and data insights on social media and internet usage in Ghana.

    6 Million Social Media Users In Ghana

    According to the report, there were approximately 6.60 million social media users in Ghana in January 2023 which is about 19.5 percent of the country’s total population (~30 million)

    There were 23.05 million internet users in Ghana at the start of 2023 with the country’s internet penetration standing at 68.2 percent.

    A total of 43.88 million cellular mobile connections were active in Ghana in early 2023.

    40.5 percent of Ghana’s social media users were female, while 59.5 percent were male.

    Facebook and WhatsApp Usage Still Dominates

    According to the report and data published in Meta’s advertising resources, WhatsApp is still the number one social media platform in Ghana, with Facebook coming in second with 5.65 million users in Ghana in early 2023.

    However, figures show that users in Ghana decreased by 1.4 million (-19.9 percent) between 2022 and 2023.

    WhatsApp and Instagram Are Favorites

    In the data reported, most Ghanaians indicated that WhatsApp and Instagram were their favorite social media apps.

    Instagram users in Ghana totalled about 1.70 million users in Ghana in early 2023.

    Users Spend Most Of Their Time On YouTube and TikTok

    TikTok and YouTube occupy most Ghanaian users’ time according to the data. Averagely, users spending about 23.5 hours/month on TikTok and 23.1 hours/month on YouTube.

    Betting and Adult Websites Dominate Ghanaian’s Top 10 Website Visits

    The data from the report indicated that the top websites that Ghanaians visit are most betting and adult websites.
