The National Tripartite Committee, comprising representatives from the government, employers, and organized labor, has officially commenced negotiations on the 2025 minimum wage.
The discussions, which began on Monday, February 3, 2025, are a crucial step toward determining salary adjustments for workers across the country.
Following the minimum wage negotiations, the committee will also deliberate on base pay for public sector employees.
However, concerns have been raised as the wage discussions are significantly behind schedule. According to the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, these negotiations were expected to be finalized by April 2024.
In light of these delays, the government is urging all stakeholders—employers, labor unions, and government representatives—to expedite the process to ensure the outcomes are incorporated into the 2025 budget.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, emphasized the need for swift negotiations to prevent further setbacks in salary adjustments.
The outcome of these discussions will directly impact workers’ earnings and the overall economic outlook.
