Former Minister of Environment, Science & Technology Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has raised concerns about the impact of illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey) on food production.
His view is that an unimaginable hunger is imminent in Ghana due to the destruction of farmlands by the galamsyers.
“The hunger that will befall us in the future is unimaginable. Illegal miners are destroying all our pipelines and biodiversity and nobody cares,” he said on the Key Ponts on TV3 Saturday, November 30.
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng further observed that Ghana does not have leaders who are genuinely interested in future generations.
He expresses the view that young people have lost hope in the leadership.
He stressed “We don’t have the crop of leaders who are ready to sacrifice for future generations. The young people of today have lost hope.”
In the area of corruption, he indicated that the leadership is not serious in nipping the menace in the bud.
“We are not serious about the corruption fight. Leading this country is not about satisfying your family alone and leaving the generation to suffer,” he said.
