WhatsApp voice message transcription converts voice messages into written text.
This feature is useful for users who prefer reading messages instead of listening to them. However, the transcription feature must be enabled on your device before you can use it.
Enabling Voice Message Transcription
Voice message transcription is turned off by default and must be enabled manually. Follow these steps to activate it:
- Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
- Tap Chats.
- Toggle Voice Message Transcripts on.
- Select Choose language, then pick the language most commonly used in your received voice messages.
Important Notes:
- You can change the transcript language at any time by navigating to Settings > Chats > Transcript language.
- If you turn off voice message transcription, your language settings will be reset.
- To use this feature, Siri must be enabled on your device.
- If Siri wasn’t enabled before turning on transcription, you may need to download the selected language.
How to View a Voice Message Transcript
Once transcription is enabled, follow these steps to view a transcript:
- Tap and hold a voice message.
- Select Transcribe.
- To expand the transcript, tap the open/close menu within the voice message.
