Voter Register: Why has NDC failed to submit details of so-called irregularities to EC – NPP

He says that the recent demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the voter register was just to create tension in the country.

Kodua Frimpong described the protest as needless, mischievous and deceptive.

“It is obvious that recent agitations by the NDC pertaining to the 2024 Provisional Register are needless, deceptive, mischievous, and a deliberate attempt to create tensions in the country,” he said during a press conference in Accra on Thursday, September 19.

“Many Ghanaians and the NPP cannot comprehend why the NDC has not submitted to the EC detailed information of its so-called irregularities, discrepancies, and unauthorised entries in the provisional voters’ register despite several appeals by the EC.

“For instance, on page two of their petition to the EC, the NDC stated emphatically that they have uncovered evidence of 243,540 illegal transfers, 3,957 deleted names, as well as over 15,000 unidentified voter transfer cards in the provisional register.  Yet 13 days after the NDC first met the EC on September 6, 2024, they have still not provided a single document to authenticate any of these allegations. We ask, is this not interesting? Indeed, if the NDC has any evidence of illegal transfers, why have they not submitted evidence of such an illegality to be reversed by the EC?

“We believe strongly that the nationwide demonstration by the NDC would have been justified had the EC failed to act after receiving evidence from the NDC on the alleged irregularities and discrepancies,” he added.

The NDC organized the Enough is Enough nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 17 to press home their demands for the conduct of the voter register.

“Our demand is simple,” National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.

He added “We want the EC to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election and a credible register is central to that goal.

“We want nothing but transparent elections that will guarantee our right to choose our leaders. Without the right of self-determination, democracy is good as gone and every democracy at one point in time, comes under threat Ghana’s democracy is under serious threat now and we want to prevail.

“We shall overcome because every democracy has the risk of producing a tyrant but our ability to fight that tyrant and restore democracy once again is paramount and we shall prevail.”
