We’ve escalated the matter to our national executives – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said his Caucus has reported the suspension of its MPs to the party’s national executives.

Bagbin suspended four MPs on Friday for their involvement in last Thursday’s chaotic incident leading to the destruction of some state properties during the ministerial vetting.

At a press briefing on Monday, February 3, 2025, Afenyo-Markin noted that Alban Bagbin has violated the rights of the MPs for suspending them without a fair hearing.

According to him, if anything at all, diplomatic channels must first be utilised and not an outright suspension.

“We have also escalated the matter to our party level. NPP minority is the wing of the NPP so we have also communicated this matter to party headquarters, the national chairman and the general secretary have become aware of this and they do not take it lightly at all and they believe that the diplomatic channels must be utilized,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin disclosed that the Minority caucus will engage the speaker and lay before him their grievances, hoping for a meeting with Alban Bagbin, today, February 3, 2025.

“We believe that the Speaker will be in his office, we’ll see the speaker and take our discussions further.

“We are going to forward our concerns in a memo to his office and we believe that will be a basis for our discussion. We don’t know how to treat the Speaker’s communication whether it’s a ruling or a communication so called properly,” Afenyo-Markin noted.
