A Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Koku Anyidoho has questioned why the flagbearer of the NDC, Former President John Dramani Mahama was not seen among the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstrators during the protest organized by the opposition party on Tuesday, September 17.
In a post on his X platform, Koku said “So, after inciting NDC supporters onto the streets, JM and his family stayed at home huh? The monkeys should go and die for the baboons to stay alive and walk on blood to power huh? We live to see. Ghana shall NOT die.”
The NDC organized the Enough is Enough nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 17 to press home their demands for the conduct of the voter register.
“Our demand is simple,” National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.
He added “We want the EC to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election and a credible register is central to that goal.
“We want nothing but transparent elections that will guarantee our right to choose our leaders. Without the right of self-determination, democracy is good as gone and every democracy at one point in time, comes under threat Ghana’s democracy is under serious threat now and we want to prevail.
“We shall overcome because every democracy has the risk of producing a tyrant but our ability to fight that tyrant and restore democracy once again is paramount and we shall prevail.”
Following the protest, Mr Mahama took to his Platform to say that it was not just a call for an audit but a call for justice, fairness, and the protection of our democratic rights.
He called on the Electoral Commission not to betray the trust Ghanaians have had in the institution and its operations.
“I have arrived in Goaso for a two-day #Mahama4Change2024 campaign tour of the Ahafo Region. Before that, however, I want to extend the gratitude of the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Ghanaians for their participation in yesterday’s demonstration, advocating for a forensic audit of the 2024 voter register.
“The commitment of all Ghanaians to ensuring free,fair and transparent elections is a testament to our shared determination, as a people, to guarantee the integrity of our electoral process.
“I am incredibly thankful to my NDC executives, the Elections Directorate, and our dedicated supporters for publicly manifesting our concerns. Remember that the demonstration is not just a call for an audit but a call for justice, fairness, and the protection of our democratic rights. The Commission must not betray the trust Ghanaians have had in the institution and its operations,” he wrote on his X platform.
