    Details

The plan known as net metering will be available to residential customers and the power company.

Zesco, Zambia’s state-owned power utility is also discussing similar measures with larger commercial users.

    Zoom Out

Zambia largely relies on hydroelectric power for its power generation. Recently, electricity generation has been hampered by drought, resulting in a deficit of 1,000 megawatts, leading to daily rolling blackouts lasting at least 12 hours.

The country has approved plans to build a second coal plant to address the shortfall.
