Fuel shortage in Northern Ghana being resolved – NPA

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that the fuel shortage experienced in the Northern part of the country is being addressed through a multi-pronged approach.

Following reports of fuel shortages in the region, the NPA convened a meeting of the Technical Committee on Energy to discuss the situation. The committee identified logistical challenges as the root cause of the issue.

To address the shortage, the NPA has implemented the following measures:

    1. Increased Supply from Kumasi: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been granted special permission to load petrol from the Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi to serve retail outlets in the five regions of the Northern part of the country.

    2. Additional Supplies from Tema: OMCs are also being allowed to increase their petrol loads from depots in Tema to augment the supply from Kumasi.

    3. Bolstering Northern Stocks: Arrangements are underway to transport nine million liters of petrol from the Buipe depot to the Bolgatanga depot through the pipeline, further increasing fuel availability in the region.

The NPA has emphasized that there is no cause for alarm and that the situation is being addressed promptly. The public is advised to avoid panic buying.

This three-pronged solution is being implemented concurrently to immediately address the issue,” stated the NPA in a press release.

We wish to encourage the consuming public to go about their normal business and avoid panic buying. The NPA wishes to reassure Ghanaians of adequate fuel stocks in the country, with vessels lined up to discharge products into the country.

The NPA’s measures are expected to quickly resolve the fuel shortage and ensure the smooth flow of fuel supplies across the Northern Region.
