President John Mahama reduces ministries from 30 to 23

President John Dramani Mahama has streamlined the structure of Ghana’s Civil Service by reducing the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

This strategic move, formalised through an Executive Instrument signed on January 9, 2025, aims to enhance efficiency and cut down on administrative costs.

The newly established ministries include the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, among others. Notable additions such as the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, as well as the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, reflect a focus on technology, trade, and sustainable development.

This realignment underscores President Mahama’s vision for a leaner and more productive government machinery, prioritising impactful governance over bureaucracy.
