New York City Mayor Eric Adams visited El Paso, Texas over the weekend and described the surge of illegal immigrants at the border as a “national crisis.”
Adams, who has bragged about how his city is a “sanctuary city,” issued a statement Friday once again defining the peril New York faces as they continue to see a “massive influx” of so-called “asylum seekers.”
“We are now seeing more people arrive than we have ever seen — averaging over 400 people each day this last week, with 835 asylum seekers arriving on one single day alone, the largest single day arrival we’ve seen to date,” the statement reads.
“All this is pushing New York City to the brink.”
The warning was accompanied by a tweet from the mayor demanding federal support: “This is a national crisis and we need a national solution.”

Thousands of migrants from the border have been bused to NYC by the Democrat led city of El Paso, as well as by TX Governor Greg Abbott, since last year. https://t.co/s01E3BffxT— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) January 15, 2023
Eric Adams Claims Border Situation is a ‘National Crisis’
Earlier this month, President Biden made his first-ever visit to the border, where he was offered a sanitized view of the situation Eric Adams defines as a “national crisis.”

As The Political Insider reported previously, El Paso cleared out illegal immigrant camps and cleaned up the streets ahead of Biden’s visit.

The White House, despite all evidence to the contrary, has insisted the President has been taking the crisis at the border “very seriously since day one” even while calling criticism from Republican lawmakers little more than “political stunts.”
Will he start taking it more seriously now that a far-left, sanctuary-loving ally is pointing out the obvious?
“Why isn’t this considered a disaster?” Adams asked in an interview with the New York Post. “This is a crisis.”
For starters, Mr. Mayor, it hasn’t been considered a disaster because the far-left has loudly proclaimed how welcoming their “sanctuary cities” are, without having to deal with the crisis like Arizona and Texas have.
Adams also took a jab at the federal government’s response, claiming, despite the fact that there is a border czar on the case named Kamala Harris, that “no one is coordinating this national effort” to fix the crisis.
.@NYCMayor is right when he calls illegal immigration “a national crisis” but let’s be clear—it’s a preventable crisis, single-handedly created by @POTUS via executive order. He can stop it today but chooses not to & Adams only further incentivizes it w/ free housing & services. pic.twitter.com/2GrnnAQKVC

Says They’re Being Promised Things
Eric Adams’ press secretary, Fabien Levy, took another jab at the Biden administration by suggesting the border crisis is out of control in part because illegal immigrants are being lured with false promises.
“The reality of the situation is these migrants are being promised things before they cross the border that are just not available,” Levy claimed.
In other words, they think the border is wide open and that they’ll find jobs, maybe even some free smartphones, etc.

“Our cities are being undermined. We don’t deserve this. Migrants don’t deserve this and the people who live in the cities don’t deserve this…There is no more room in New York.” pic.twitter.com/tyYGMxhdeO— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) January 16, 2023
Eric Adams went on to suggest the border surge crisis has left him no other options than to declare his city closed to illegal aliens.
“There is no more room in New York,” he said.
It is a far cry from when the mayor was proudly declaring the Big Apple to be a ‘sanctuary city.’
“We should protect our immigrants.” Period.
Yes, New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration. #EricOnNBC

“New York City is, and has always been, a city of immigrants,” he said just 18 months ago.
“We are a destination for diversity and a place where people from every nation seek refuge, raise families, and enrich our communities,” added Adams. “Under my administration, our government will reflect that.”
Now the doors are closed – allegedly.
Easy to be brave and claim the moral high ground, until your city is actually being overrun by illegal aliens.
