Tamale: NPP’s petition against Savelugu MP dismissed

A High court in Tamale has dismissed a parliamentary election petition brought against the Member of Parliament for the Savelugu constituency, NDC’s Abdul Jacob Iddrisu.

The petition by the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP’s 2020 Parliamentary candidate for the area, Mohammed Abdul Somed Gunu was challenging the validity of the 2020 results declared by the Electoral Commission.

He claimed the electoral process was fraught with malpractices, irregularities, over voting among others but the Court, presided over by Justice Daniel Obeng in his ruling said the allegations were just administrative errors and did not affect the outcome of the elections.
H subsequently declared the Electoral Commission’s result, valid.

The court also awarded the cost of GH¢60,000 against the petitioner. He is to pay GH¢40,000 to the MP for Savelugu and GH¢20,000 to the Electoral Commission.
